Unit Summary The Juravinski Cancer Centre (JCC) Chemotherapy Suite provides chemotherapy treatment to patients with cancer across all disease sites, as well as treatment to a large number of patients who are recruited to clinical trials. Approximately 150 patients are treated daily in a footprint that includes 3 stretchers and 39 chairs. We work closely with Pharmacy, Laboratory Services, and the JCC Clinics. The Chemotherapy Suite includes our Chemotherapy Nurses, Clerks and Health Care Aides. There is also interaction with Physicians, Allied Health Professionals, and Customer Support Services and with other Juravinski Hospital Staff in the delivery of high quality patient centered care.

Reporting to the Clinical Manager, Systemic Therapy, the Health Care Aide functions as a member of the Chemotherapy Suite Team, supporting health care through equipment and supply management, maintenance of a clean, safe environment, and participation in selected patient care activities. The Health Care Aide functions according to the job description for Health Care Aides.

Schedule Work Hours Monday to Friday; days

  1. Personal Support Worker or Health Care Aide Certificate, or nursing student with successful completion of all level 2 courses of an accredited BScN program, or successful completion of semester 2 courses of a Practical Nursing program.
    2. Minimum 2 years experience in a similar role within a healthcare environment
    3. Previous outpatient clinic experience
    4. Experience maintaining and stocking materials and supplies
    5. Knowledge and skill in using computers (Including Meditech and Microsoft Office)
    6. Demonstrated competency in applying the principles of Universal Precautions and WHMIS to the work setting
    7. Demonstrated effective communication (verbal and written), interpersonal, teamwork skills
    8. Demonstrated initiative and judgement appropriate for the position
    9. Ability to accept assigned or delegated functions
    10. Ability to set priorities and organize work accordingly
    11. Ability to deal with various hospital departments effectively and collaboratively
    12. Ability to walk and stand for prolonged periods, to lift using appropriate lifting techniques and to bend, push and pull using good body mechanics
    13. Demonstrated ability to read and write English proficiently
